Nine Framed Analysis - Influential Film

Nine Framed Analysis of My Film

Photo Montage
  • For my film I used 'I Movie' on an apple mac, this I something new that I decided to try as in the past i've always used Premier Pro. I felt that I Movie was easier to use and that the quality of the footage after rendering it was better quality than after rendering on premier pro.
  • The camera's used meant that I could take numerous perspectives and camera angles, freely and easily. This also meant that my film could benefit.
  • The memory Stick meant that I could transfer my work from different computers, making it easier to complete my work both at school and home.
  • Blogger is a quick and easy site to use, where you can easily upload and edit any of your blog posts.
  • The tripod helps keep the Camera steady, this means that the footage captured is more professional and structured.
  • You Tube is another website that allows easy access to footage, I was able put my influential film on the blog due to the fact that a link could be put on the blog through YouTube.

Synergy between my three products

As you can see my three products all revolve around the band 'Note to Self', an amateur band trying to stay together through their first few performances.

On my poster I used a picture taken of the band, from one of the concerts I filmed at, to gain footage. This means that there is evidently continuity throughout and helps people recognise what band they are.

The trailer itself includes the title of the film 'Note To Self', therefore when people see the name of the band across the magazine cover and poster's immediately they should be able to realise who they are.

For the magazine I used a different picture than the one on the poster, but again I made sure that it was a picture from one of their concerts. I felt this was important as there is a lot of footage in the trailer from the concerts, so by having pictures from the concerts on both the magazine and the poster it reflects the synergy throughout.

I also made sure that all the colours I used were quite dark and grungy as this then reflects the image of the band, keeping it the same throughout.

Another point is that my magazine was a music magazine as I wanted to make sure that I kept up with the theme of it being a music documentary.

Audience Feedback

My first piece of Audience feedback was on my original idea. Originally I intended to make a documentary based on the different social groups around a school. Although other students raised concerns when It was suggested that young students might not necessarily take the film very seriously. Another thought was that it might look too much like a TV programme for example 'Educating Essex'. I then decided to completely get rid of the idea for social groups and changed to making a music documentary about a amateur band instead.

When delivering the pitch, my audience had some concerns about how I was going to deliver this as a short film and make it interesting. I therefore decided to change it to a trailer, as I felt that you can get more across in a trailer I changed it.

For my Ancillary tasks, I got feedback on my title. The colour was originally a dark grey a bit like the title in my poster but it didn't stand out well. I therefore changed it to white so that the reader will automatically be able to see the Title.

Textual Analysis (Music Documentary)

Discuss what is seen?
This trailer shows the backstage antic's of the band Green Day. Including in between shows and whilst on tour, with interviews between the band and the crew. I'm going to try and include all of these things in my own film.As well as footage from performances.

How has the director made this mean something?
The director wanted to make sure that Green Day fans can see exactly what goes on with the band whilst they are on tour, as this is an inside look that they don't usually get. As the band i'm making a documentary on are not particularly popular, mine will revolve around band practices and first performances, as well as setting up.

What it means to us
The director wants to keep the audience interested throughout the entire film therefore it's important that they capture important aspects of the film throughout the trailer. For example watching the trailer it's evident that the parts people are most interested in is facts and stories behind the performances and the performances themselves, therefore the trailer should build up with both of these things. My trailer is going to include these as people will see an amateur band trying to start out.

What is shown to us on the screen and the sound with it
As throughout the trailer were shown performances from the band Green Day, it;s only fitting that green day music is included throughout. If you listen closely when the band is performing the music is loud, and when the trailer skips to backstage it's quieter, this is what i'm going to attempt to recreate in my own trailer.

Mise En Scene
The Mise En Scene throughout fits in with the type of band Green Day is (grungy rock) therefore the costumes they wear include a lot of black and makeup around the eyes, the band note to self that I am doing my own documentary on, has the same image therefore it is crucial that the set designs and lighting are quite dim and gloomy to fit the type of band they are.
